elvo

The Elvo torrent, or Helevo in Latin, originates from Monte Mars, continues south along a large part of the Biella province and then flows into the Cervo.

Emerald green waters that take this color from the dense vegetation that blooms on its banks, the Elvo is one of the most popular rivers in the province.

One of the reasons is certainly the presence of some points in which its course narrows, creating areas where the water reaches a bathing depth.

These areas literally retain a poem in their name, which even goes back to the texts of Dante's Inferno:

«non molto ha corso, ch’el trova una lama / ne la qual si distende e la ‘mpaluda».

Hence the name of lame.

The second reason is that tiny golden specks hide among its waters, which attract several people every year with the hope of finding golden nuggets.

To find out more about the "golden fishermen" (as the prospectors were once called), we invite you to go to the Museo dell'Oro e della Bessa where you will be able to understand how they used the wooden Copon, a typical tool from the Elvo valley, to look for the precious metal.

About the planet

Despite the more than satisfactory water purity index in Biella, thanks to the work of the numerous bodies that are committed to mitigating the harmful effect of polluting agents, much more can be done.
